Our Story

Nestled in the rolling farmlands of east central Wisconsin, between the shores of Lake Winnebago and Lake Michigan. Premier Financial Credit Union is a full-service community credit union, with offices located in New Holstein, Kiel and Chilton. PFCU serves anyone who lives or works in Calumet, Sheboygan, Manitowoc, Fond du Lac and Outagamie counties and their families.

Growing with our members

The Beginning

On February 1, 1962, twelve employees from the Lauson Engine Division of Tecumseh Products in New Holstein, Wisconsin, took the first step toward joining the credit union movement. They met with an organizer from the Wisconsin Credit Union League and filed an organizational worksheet to form a credit union, visioning a membership 500 strong. In those early days, the credit union operated out of a toolbox at Tecumseh Products and even from the home of a director—a humble start built on trust, community, and a shared vision for financial empowerment.

Our Name Though the Years

Originally founded as LA-TEC Employees Credit Union, our name reflected our roots in serving the employees of Lauson Engine and Tecumseh Products. As membership expanded beyond the workplace, members voted in 1977 to simplify the name to LA-TEC Credit Union, signaling a broader commitment to serve more than just local employees. In 2007, we embraced a new identity as Premier Financial Credit Union, a name chosen to reflect our mission of serving the entire community and representing excellence, growth, and financial empowerment.

Branching Out, Expanding Our Footprint

In 1965, the Board of Directors made a pivotal decision to move the credit union to 2017 Main Street in New Holstein—a location that remains our headquarters today. Over the years, we expanded our reach to better serve members and communities. Our first branch opened in Kiel in 1981, later relocating to 530 Fremont Street in 1985, with a major remodel completed in 2019. In 1982, we established a branch in Chilton, moving to 50 E. Chestnut Street in 1990 and building a brand-new office on the same site in 2016. Continuing this tradition of growth, we proudly opened our Plymouth branch in 2026, strengthening our commitment to the communities we serve.

From basic savings and loans to modern conveniences like online banking, mobile apps, and innovative financial solutions, each addition reflects our commitment to making banking easier, more accessible, and affordable—always putting people before profits.
